Discovering Chinatown 2: How East Meets West on Grand Street

Janes Walk

Led By Yong Zhang AND Shiyue Zhang

Welcome to this walking tour through the Lower East Side, Chinatown, Little Italy, and SoHo on Grand Street. As we explore, we’ll see how Eastern and Western cultures blend through architecture, traditions, and businesses.
We begin at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, then the historic Bialystoker Synagogue, and Seward Park Cooperative (mysterious murals) before stopping at Kossar’s Bialys.

In Chinatown, we’ll explore traditional at Wang Lao Ji Herbal Tea Museum, and modern herbals at Hong Yee Pharmacy, alongside architectural gems like the Former Bowery Savings Bank. In Little Italy, we’ll visit Ferrara Bakery, a beloved institution since 1892.

Our journey ends at the Former NYC Police Headquarters and Odd Fellows Hall in SoHo, two historic landmarks reflecting the area’s evolution. Are you ready for the experience?
